Paris Cafe

France

France is one of the most beautiful and diverse countries in the world. It offers historical cities, rolling farmlands, beautiful beaches and magnificent mountains. Although not large by American standards (about the size of Texas), it presents visitors with an embarrassment of riches that can be overwhelming to first time travelers.

Paris, the "City of Light", always manages to live up to its reputation as one of the world's most romantic cities.  Earnest Hemingway referred to the many splendors of Paris as a "moveable feast." Stroll along the broad tree-lined boulevards stopping to browse through the chic shops and relax at the sidewalk cafes. Visit the world-renowned museums, monuments and cathedrals.  And of course enjoy the meticulously prepared cuisine.

Once outside of Paris, a whole new experience awaits. The wine route through Bourgogne, the chateaux filled Loire Valley, the Germain flavored regions of Alsace-Lorraine, the Normandy landing beaches, and the delights of sunny Provence are all there to tempt the traveler.

As delightful as France is as a travel destination, it can be somewhat daunting for first time visitors.  When you arrive in France, you will enter a culture with a set of rules and customs that are often quite different from those at home.  Unless you are a frequent visitor, you'll probably experience some form of cultural inadequacy—beginning with the French language, the 24 hour clock system and other cultural nuances.

We have been traveling to France for over twenty years, and during that time have learned much about the country, the French people and French customs. We have also acquired a lot of practical information that will make your trip less stressful and more enjoyable.  We would like to share some of what we have learned on these pages.

This is not intended to be an exhaustive travel guide.  The book stores are filled with those and there are many good ones. Rather, this is a collection of our favorite Paris restaurants, Paris walks and places to visit, and practical information that might make your trip more enjoyable.
